Technically speaking, amazing.

Exploring new worlds comes with some risks. For macro shooting, that commonly means color fringing at the edges of high-contrast subjects. The NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S'S innovative optical design, powered by a new multi-focus system, virtually eliminates chromatic aberrations for clearer, sharper images with no color fringing.

Live on the edge.

When you’re filling the frame with fine details, sharpness counts, even at the edges. The NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S compensates for field curvature, ensuring clarity and sharpness across the entire frame. It's ideal for reproducing printed artwork, documents, signage and more.

Two lenses in one.

The NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S doubles as a superb portrait lens. Its 105mm mid-telephoto focal length is in the sweet spot for portrait work. Its f/2.8 maximum aperture lets you separate your subject from a softly blurred background. And its 5-axis image stabilization when used with a compatible Z series camera is ideal for in-the-moment handheld shooting.

Unshakable confidence.

Pursue insects, plants and other nature handheld in the field. With 4.5 stops* of VR and 5-axis compensation when paired with a compatible Z series mirrorless camera, the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S lets you be spontaneous and confident all at once.

Get closer.

Get as close as 0.96 ft. (0.29m) from your subject with full AF performance. An innovative new multi-focus system powered by an ultra-quiet stepping motor (STM) smoothly focuses from close-range to infinity with outstanding accuracy and silent operation.

Sensitive to detail.

The NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S is fine-tuned for close-distance focusing. A new autofocus algorithm accounts for minute distance changes that alter the effective aperture, maximizing the resolving power of the S-Line optics.

Keep your focus tight.

When working at close distances, flip the limiter switch to prevent focus searching by constraining the autofocus range from 0.3m to 0.5m. Turn it off and enjoy the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S's full focusing range from close-up to infinity.

Beautiful, beautiful bokeh.

The NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S isn’t only about the technical; it’s focused on aesthetics and style, too. Wide open at f/2.8, it creates a beautifully artistic background blur, or bokeh effect—gentle, soft and round without discernible edges and no “onion rings” or spirals.

A flare for the dramatic.

Don’t back down to dramatic backlit situations. Nikon’s two innovative anti-reflective coatings, Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat, keep images sharp and clear by minimizing ghost and flare effects. Boldly shoot directly into harsh light sources with confidence.

Stack your shots.

Use the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S on a Z series camera with the Focus Shift Mode, and create hyper-detailed images that would be impossible to achieve with optics alone. (Requires third party image stacking software.)

Artistry. Built in.

Technology

  • ARNEO Coat

    ARNEO Coat

An anti-reflective coating developed by Nikon and used in conjunction with Nano Crystal Coat to further reduce ghost and flare effects caused by incident light entering the lens vertically. This allows for the outstandingly clear capture of images even when a light source is located within the frame.
  • Fluorine Coat

    Fluorine Coat

Photographers need gear that can withstand the elements. Nikon’s fluorine coat effectively repels dust, water droplets, grease or dirt, ensuring easy removal even when they adhere to the lens surface. Nikon’s fluorine coat endures a high frequency of lens surface wiping and its anti-reflective effect also contributes to the capture of clear images.
  • Stepping Motor

    Stepping Motor

NIKKOR Z lenses use a stepping motor for fast, accurate, smooth, quiet autofocus with reduced wobbling. This quiet drive system makes the lenses ideal for use when shooting video.
  • Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism

    Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism

An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting.
  • ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass

    ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass

An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
  • Nano Crystal Coat

    Nano Crystal Coat

An anti-reflective coating developed by Nikon that virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. Nano Crystal Coat solves ghost effects caused by red light and effectively reduces ghost and flare caused by light entering the lens diagonally.
  • Aspherical Lens

    Aspherical Lens

A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the centre of the lens.
  • IF Lens

    IF Lens

A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.
  • Super Integrated Coating

    Super Integrated Coating

Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.
  • Vibration Reduction

    Vibration Reduction

A Nikon in-lens technology that improves image stability by automatically compensating for camera shake. Lenses that offer VR will feature the abbreviation VR on the lens barrel.

*Based on CIPA Standard: this value is achieved when attached to a FX-format camera with the camera’s VR function set to “NORMAL”, and when zoom is set to the maximum telephoto position.

The lens incorporates an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism. The following cameras are compatible with this lens: Z 5, Z 50, Z 7II, Z 7, Z 6II, Z 6.
