The HN-42 Lens Hood is designed to protect the NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7 lens while in use. Nikon recommends using the lens hood while shooting to prevent ghosting. The HN-42 screws onto the threads on the lens itself. Filters should be attached to the front of the lens hood, not to the lens iteself.
